In 2011, ten students were guided by Velma Lomax to start a group dedicated to robotics for the Ventura County region. Those ten students had no idea that the small club they created would become part of the FIRST robotics competitions. From that point on, Team 3925 has become the passionate, inspiring, and strong group of students that it is today.
FRC Team 3925 was founded in 2011 with only ten members, and has largely increased to approximately forty-five students in our current 2018-2019 season. Since founding of our team, we have won many different awards. In our first year we won the "Rookie of the Year Award" at the Los Angeles Regional (lead us to the 2012 FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis.). Additionally, one of our students won the prestigious Dean’s List Award at the Davis regional.
During the 2017 competition season, we earned the Chairman’s Award ( the most prestigious award in FIRST), at the Ventura Regional, as well as winning Ventura Regional and Orange County Regional competitions that season.
In 2020, we won the Chairman's Award at Aerospace Valley Regional.
In 2022, our team was honored with the Gracious Professionalism award at the Ventura Regional at Port Hueneme for helping Team 4817, Singapore American School, compete at the Week 1 event since they were unable to attend in-person and we were able to assist by running their robot.
These are some of our past successes but we have plans to keep them coming. We are working on earning our second Chairman's Award which will put us in contention to compete for Chairman’s Award at World Championships. This team goal would also lead Team 3925 to obtain a place in the FIRST Hall of Fame.
We pride ourselves on being a student-led team. All executive leaders are students that manage departments with staff, deadlines and budgets. We rely on adult instructors and mentors for advise. We get the opportunity to fail and learn from our mistakes. We also get the opportunity to reach out of our comfort zones and succeed through responsibility and efforts.
We are focused on the impact we have in our community. For example, we started a wave of First teams in our county and host a variety of events including First Lego League competitions to acquaint younger students with our program. We promote STEAM education from elementary school through post-graduate levels by inspiring others.
